The Eco-revolution in Bamboo Fiber Processing — In-depth Introduction to Bio-enzymatic Degumming

In the R&D and production of bamboo fiber degradable products, we hold that technological innovation guarantees both product quality and environmental performance. The degumming and fiberization processes directly determine the purity and toughness of bamboo fiber, as well as environmental compliance and market competitiveness. We will give a detailed introduction to our core technology: the combined process of bio-enzymatic degumming and physical mechanical fiberization, including workflow and core advantages, to demonstrate the eco-friendly and high-quality strengths of our bamboo fiber from the production source.

Original Intention of Technological Innovation

We aim to eliminate the drawbacks of traditional strong alkali degumming while preserving the natural properties of bamboo fiber. Strong alkali degumming is widely used in conventional bamboo fiber processing. Though it removes impurities quickly, it leaves chemical residues that fail EU environmental certifications and block entry to high-end overseas markets. Moreover, it generates massive volumes of heavily polluted wastewater. Statistically, the chemical degumming process produces 200–450 cubic meters of wastewater per ton of products, containing large amounts of acid, alkali and inorganic salts that cause long-term damage to soil and water, running counter to the original vision of green degradable products.

Statistically, the chemical degumming process produces 200–450 cubic meters of wastewater per ton of products, containing large amounts of acid, alkali and inorganic salts that cause long-term damage to soil and water, running counter to the original vision of green degradable products.

Against this backdrop, we adopted the combined bio-enzymatic degumming and physical mechanical fiberization process, resolving the quality and environmental pain points of traditional techniques and forming our core technological edge. Different from the harsh chemical treatment of strong alkali degumming, bio-enzymatic degumming adopts mild biodegradation. Compound enzymes work with high specificity to decompose non-fiber impurities, fully retaining the natural toughness of bamboo fiber while realizing green production. It is now a leading eco-friendly technology in the bamboo fiber processing industry.

Complete Process Workflow

Every step is controlled with precise parameters to ensure stable raw material quality:

1、Bamboo Chipping: Premium moso bamboo is cut into uniform chips, with roots and tips removed for pre-processing.
2、Bio-enzymatic Soaking & Softening: Bamboo chips are soaked in specially formulated enzyme solution for 12–16 hours. Enzymes soften bamboo structures and decompose non-fiber impurities to improve fiber flexibility.
3、Mechanical Rolling & Fiber Separation: Soaked bamboo chips go through mechanical rolling to separate bamboo fibers and disperse fiber bundles.
4、Filtration & Impurity Removal: Lignin, pectin and other non-fiber substances are thoroughly removed to prevent fiber delamination and fracture and ensure uniform fiber distribution.
5、Purification & Drying: Fibers are further purified and dried with strictly controlled parameters. The final moisture content is maintained at 8%–12% — excessive moisture causes mildew, while insufficient moisture leads to brittle fibers.
6、Purity Inspection: The purity of finished fiber is guaranteed to be ≥95%, laying a solid quality foundation for manufacturing drawstring bags, flat bags and other products.

Core Advantages

1. Superior Environmental Performance

No strong acids or alkalis are used in bio-enzymatic degumming. The pollutant concentration (CODcr) of wastewater is far lower than that of traditional chemical processes, achieving fully compliant wastewater discharge. The technology meets EU environmental standards and complies with the global trend of green manufacturing, reducing environmental impacts from the source.

2. Stable & Excellent Product Quality

Mild enzymatic treatment keeps the natural structure of bamboo fiber intact. Combined with precise physical fiberization, the finished fibers feature high purity and excellent flexibility. The end products resist brittleness and breakage and deliver a soft touch, suitable for a wide range of applications.

Many clients wonder why we invest more in this advanced process. The answer is straightforward: premium bamboo fiber products must balance usability and environmental responsibility. Traditional strong alkali degumming has low costs but inherent environmental and quality defects, making it ineligible for high-end markets. Despite higher management requirements, the bio-enzymatic combined process delivers dual upgrades in eco-friendliness and quality, enabling our products to enter high-end overseas markets and provide superior eco-friendly bamboo fiber goods for clients.

Process details define the upper limit of product quality. From abandoning outdated chemical degumming to adopting innovative combined technologies, from 12–16 hour targeted soaking to 8%–12% moisture control and over 95% fiber purity standard, every detail reflects our persistence in quality and environmental protection. We believe that continuous technological innovation and strict process control will drive the upgrading of the bamboo fiber industry, and deliver compliant, practical and high-grade degradable products to live up to the trust of clients and the market.
